Maybe the last big signing, was it ever in doubt,
this year,

I'm glad they got rid of Vaughn but these four guys are jags. The New England Patriots announced today that they have signed four rookie free agents: RB Terrell Jennings, G Ryan Johnson, LB Jay Person and Australian DE Jotham Russell. The Patriots will receive a roster exemption for Russell as an International Pathway Program player. All four players attended the Patriots rookie mini-camp this past weekend. In addition, the Patriots released RB Ke'Shawn Vaughn. www.patriots.com/news/patriots-sign-four-rookie-free-agents-release-rb-ke-shawn-vaughn

Another Belichick guy extended. Weird. that’s the going rate for a center these days. No one is going to come cheap. I hope at least a bonfire was started with some of that burning cash. Shame he’s not a LT.

Andrews had no more guaranteed money left on his previous deal so providing him security short term was the right thing to do.

love the player, not the deal. I was under the impression he was on the fence to retire. probably year to year now. team drafted Jake Andrews, singed Charles Turner (UDFA LSU) have to see the actual deal not the announced deal.

We have to see the actual contract but this deal, while it looks like it runs through 2025, actually just guarantees him money for this year. It provides a longtime captain and starter with security entering this training camp. Whether he plans on retiring next year or even if he decides after training camp to retire this season... this amounts to a one year deal. No player wants to be playing with no security blanket, it would be disrespectful to ask Andrews to play with no net after his long distinguished career.

Thats simply not Andrews level today, or ever. Mitch Morse made the pro bowl and has an apy of $5.2m. there is respect and there is over pay. this is an over pay imo. yes they had the money. but Andrews was under contract and is over 30. he has also made some noise about retiring.

Salaries go up over time, they don't go down. You're also the guy who was arguing a month or so ago that Buffalo parted ways with Mitch Morse not over cap reasons but because he was too old... it was BS, but you argued that. And saying "he was under contract" is typical Rkarp nonsense... he's a team captain in the last year of his previous deal, he wants to play one more year and they want him to play. A contract isn't a gunman with a pistol pointed at your child's head forcing you to show up for training camp. A player can simply hold out or become a disgruntled crank... these aren't robots we're talking about, they're real people. Guaranteeing his salary for the 2024 season is not too much to ask for a life long Patriot and all around good player.

There is always some "thank you for your service" money involved in the last contract. You only become a cheapskate when it comes to our players they do sign, but them not signing some other worn out free agent like Julio Jones or when some other team overpaid for our #2 CB in JC Jackson... and suddenly you become the Monopoly Man. The cap isn't real, why do you care?

JC Jackson was 26 years old, underpaid for 3 years, and a 2nd team all pro. the Pats could have jumped on him 1 year early rather than allow him to get to free agency. I have said this now 100 times 101 times you post that I said something differently face the facts. the prior management team botched the roster, their cap space and their offense. all in the span of 4-5 years. they went from elite to irrelevent. thanks Bill

You forget that the pats were around 50 million under the cap before this deal. As of 2021 the cba required teams to be at 90% of the cap as a team minimum and the pats aren’t even close to that, meaning they need to spend or put in bogus extensions with guaranteed money that equals this years cap number to inflate the cap hits and prevent balogna bob from shelling out actual cash. This contract helps with that. Andrews already had a cap number of 8.45 million before this new deal. His new has 8 million in guarantees and still adds the original cap hit to the new deal if they push the guarantees to this year. This allows them to still pay andrews essentially the same amount as his old contract called for this year and work creative accounting to increase the cap hit without actually spending a penny more than he was originally getting. It’s a balogna bob special to try and push the team closer to the cba minimum and still not spend a dime more. I fully expect more “extensions” in the near future to get to the required 90%..

Through seven years the Patriots paid him 25.9 million... so yeah, I'd say the Patriots did right by Guy. He's also not a career Patriot, homegrown talent like Andrews. He was a 7th round draft pick free agent who was languishing on other team's special teams unit until BB, a guy you've said sucks at his job since at least 2013, pulled him from obscurity, got him paid and put a ring on his finger. JC Jackson received an 82.5 million dollar contract from the Chargers and you said BB made a mistake not paying that. Stop dancing. Thank collaboration that started in 2021 for how it ended.
