Drake Maye analyzed by the best QB scout on youtube. Former Green Bay Packer QB Kurt Benkert. youtu.be/rNh0rMarmbQ?si=8R25HOscXBzZjp2XYou should all subscribe! Drake Maye is very good one moment and then very bad the next. Not a 1st rounder like that. He doesn't drop straight back and as a result tells the defense which side of the field he is throwing to. That will result in routes getting jumped/picked off everytime! That sounds incredibly fixable to me. IMO yep, not sure why people bring this up, if you have good coaches around Maye he will grow and improve in that area fairly easily. Not saying he doesn’t have other flaws that will be harder to correct, but this flaw is a weird nit pick to always bring up as if it will be his downfall when he actually makes impressive throws off platform already. He just needs refinement

I often hear that JJ was supported by a strong running game, but I never hear the same about Drake Maye.
For the record:
In 2023, Michigan rushed for 563-2,536-40 TD's (4.5 YPA)... UNC rushed for 498-2,497-28 TD's (5.01 YPA).
Note: Michigan played (15) games, while UNC played (13).
So, Michigan was 55th nationally in rushing YPG, while UNC was 20th.
I'm not saying this tells the whole story, but the idea that Drake Maye was out there doing it on his own is malarkey.

while we are focused on who the Pats will select, lets not lose sight of Washington. I do not believe Wash trades down. they too will select a QB. they did hire Quinn as the HC, and he is of course a defensive guy. they also hired Kingsbury as their OC, and it would not surprise me if they handed him total control of the offense. we saw Kingsbury in college and in Ariz, run the air raid offense, or versions of the air raid offense. Maye had 2 OC's in his 2 seasons at UNC. Both offensive coordinators Phil Longo and Chip Lindsey run a version of the classic Air Raid offense that Commanders coach Kliff Kingsbury is popularly tied to. I have to think Wash is leaning Maye. not to say Daniels or JJM cannot run air raid, but Maye is familiar with the scheme, the terminology. Imo, the Pats are choosing between Daniels and JJM

Hope not, but that’s my belief.

But dumber more desperate moves have been made for a QB before!!! Right Trey Lance?

Penix #31 ranked player in the class. PFF Big Board. Penix #46 ranked player in the class. Yahoo Spots. Penix #70 ranked player overall. Now I’m not saying these publications are gospel, but they have a consensus that he’s not even close to the top of the draft. And you guys want to draft him at #3?! That’s insane to me. Sorry. Penix isn’t even the top ranked offensive prospect on his own team. He’s not even the 2nd ranked offensive prospect on his own team. Hell, yahoo has 3 of his WRs and his LT all ranked higher than him. They also have Maye #1 overall, for what that’s worth. I’ll stick with Maye being my guy. I hope the Redskins don’t take him.

That makes me feel a little better. But I’m still concerned that the Redskins are bluffing everyone and that they are going to take Drake Maye.

Although JJM played (and won) how many games when Harbaugh was out?

Maye's RB had the 5th most rushing yards in the country... and he'd probably be RB1 in this draft class, which contains Blake Corum.

JJM played in a "pro-style" offense under Harbaugh; an NFL quality coach. JJM played behind a top 5 OL, good WRs, and a very good running game.
Maye did not have an NFL quality coach (and had just had a change at OC?), played behind a poor(er) OL, had poor WR, and had a very good running game.
aside from each player's actual; historical stats - everything else is left to speculation...and has left numerous opinions about a QBs floor and ceiling. We are all hoping that the Patriots gamble will pay off no matter what they do with the #3 pick. The organization will have 10 minutes to decide what to do after two teams pick at #1 and #2.

I'm not taking anything out of context. I'm told that JJM was supported by a strong running game (which is true), but the same thing is never said about Drake Maye (which is also true).

I don’t think it’s going to be as easy to trade down from #3 as people think, at least not while getting the sort of value that people are expecting. It takes two to tango. If NE wants to trade back while acquiring multiple additional premium picks (which is the only condition in which they should even consider trading down), then there has to be another team, willing to give up that type of draft capital. I’m not so sure that there is.

Now, if you tell me he's not as good as Harbaugh, I would agree, it's not like Maye had some slouch of a coach. He has (282) career wins, with a .650 winning %.

It's my understanding that there were two different OC in Maye's last two seasons.

If one wants to hit a home run one has to swing big and hard ! Plz no Mac Jones 2.0, taking a guy with a supposed high floor (until you realize that his ceiling is his floor and that there is even a trap leading directly to the basement).

The only thing JJM has in common with Mac Jones is that he played on a National Championship team. JJM is a MUCH better athlete and has a much better arm.
