How much does Thomas have left in the tank? I believe he has a long streak of consecutive games played without missing any which means he's due. Streak ended last year. Ok. I knew it was long and now that I think about it I do remember it being news that his streak came to and end.

Wouldn't it be interesting if Solder does make the move to Cleveland, and BB then works out a deal with Cleveland to land Joe Thomas? Purely hypothetical, but at least plausible, IMO. A Solder for Thomas swap? that would be fun, wonder if something like this has ever happened before? I don't know if it would be a swap, as Solder is a FA, and Thomas is under contract for 2018... but the scenario, at least as I see it, would be Solder decides to sign with Cleveland, which could make Thomas expendable. BB could then work out a trade for Thomas, maybe some sort of conditional type pick. Another scenario is, Cleveland signs Solder and end up cutting Thomas? I believe he has an out in his contract that would allow them to cut him prior to June 1, with zero dead cap $... but I'm not 100% certain. I guess there's a scenario where they could keep both, but that would likely result in Solder moving over to the right side, IMO.

I was wondering the same thing but it’s looking like he’ll retire if he doesn’t play. If he decides to pay would a sign and trade work easier on the cap assuming the no huge signing bonus involved? See my response to jamegumb.

I know his son gets great treatment here but keep in mind he is getting treated at a hospital (not exactly a comforting place to call home). There are other hospitals in major city's...some of which are considered to be excellent as well. And unfortunately his treatment is pretty universally standard - there is no magic formula that they are stirring up in Boston - he can receive the same treatment in any major city. So I think to say Solder will stay because of his son is quite a bit of a stretch. Now will he need assurances from a team that his son comes first and he'll need time off to spend at the hospital with him (like the Patriots have given him)? Yeah I think that will be a priority...and I think any team courting him knows that going in...and will gladly accommodate his needs. So it comes down to...how much will he lose by staying here? How much do they actually like living here? Don't be shocked if they actually WANT A CHANGE of scenery. I believe his son did get sick here...then got treatment here...then went into remission here...then relapsed here. Some people would want to get out of a place where all that happened. It's like living in a house where all these bad things kind of happened to you, some people actually would look forward to moving. MD Anderson. Holcombe Street. Houston TX. Maybe the preeminent cancer hospital in the Nation. And about 6 blocks from Reliant Stadium.

Even Cleveland, home of the Cleveland Clinic which I hear is a good hospital. Furthermore, there are airplanes running on a daily basis and should he need some specific thing in Boston, whatever that may be, it's not a big deal. Besides all that, Belichick is a meany and the locker room is toxic. Scar yelled at him, too.

One more front office consideration: Solder will command a top-shelf salary if he's hired away, and so his loss returns an end of third round compensatory pick in the 2019 draft. Note how signing Danny Shelton off of Cleveland didn't count against the Pats in the comp pick derby because he wasn't a free agent.
