Player: Deebo Samuel / WR / South Carolina
Listed Size: 5-11+ 210
Accomplishments: 1st Team All-American as an all-purpose player, 1st Team All-SEC as a WR, and has his degree.
Fit:
Dynamic all-purpose player that can impact two phases of the game.
Solid, savvy route runner that can separate consistently.
Has the quicks/COD that they look for.
A weapon after the catch that can beat you with speed, elusiveness or physicality.
Good hands, and plucks the football.
Not a burner or pure deep threat, but plenty fast.
Tough and competitive.
Versatile and can play outside, in the slot and be used as a runner on jet sweeps/reverses, etc.
Plenty of production against ranked/Power-5 teams.
Overall: Each year I seem to be extremely high on at least one WR/Slot type and this year is no different, heck, there are multiple that I'm high on in this class. And while Samuel doesn't have the highest upside or the biggest name, he just might bet he best fit, for what NE likes in their WR's. Tough, competitive, reliable on the field, smart, good route runner, separates consistently and catches the football, are all things that describe Deebo, and he does it against everyone, putting up 16-391-4 against (3) Top 20 pass defenses in 2018, and gutting Clemson on multiple occasions. He also can impact as a returner, which should appeal to a coach/GM that puts a premium on versatility. Now, no the negative side, he's had some durability issues (2016 hamstring issues, 2017 fractured fibula) that has caused him to miss a good amount of time, but he did play in all (12) games this season, and BB hasn't shied away from talented, productive players that come with some past injury risk. I think he'd make a heck of a pick on day 2 of the draft, and would challenge for snaps early, assuming he stays healthy.
Give him a look:

The fact that he has had varying injuries will definitely appeal to BB..

Like him MB.
I also like a return trip to Georgia and a look at Riley Ridley in round 2-3... Far from a finished product, but he has the pedigree, good size, quicks and some raw ability that can be refined.... And they like those Georgia kids.
Charles Johnson is calling him the next AJ Green. Sign me up.

I love the route running and experience in more of pro-style system... both of which have plenty of value, when trying to project a WR into NE's system. thedraftnetwork.com/2018/12/24/contextualizing-production-a-riley-ridley-story/

My idea of a perfect WR would be someone like Julio Jones or Amari Cooper. I want 6'4 types that are fast and can out muscle the smaller DBs.

To be fair, Cooper isn't even 6-1... in fact, he's less than an inch or two taller than Samuel (based on latter's listed heights), but they're the same weight. Julio is a stud though, no doubt about it.

I've seen him mocked from round 1 to round 3, in the top 5 WRs taken to in the top 15 WRs taken. He came up big in a big game against Alabama and his brother. He has the skills and ability to get it done. He just needs the development & opportunity. I'd love to use the 2nd we got from Chicago on him even with a slight trade up. I think this kid is going be very good.

I like what I see in the clip you attached. Tough runner, good hands, makes himself available to the QB every time. I don't know his injury history but he does play fearlessly. If he can stay healthy, he could be a potential James White replacement, although BB seems to see Cordarelle Peterson in that role.

While I think he could be utilized in a receiving role out if the backfield, I'd project him as a JE successor that can also give you snaps on the outside. Bigtime versatility with his game, which is part of the appeal.
