in the 26 draft. good deal for both teams imo Don’t know why the jets didn’t just keep Huff in the first place? Now they get someone older and not as good to replace him

I really don't love this deal, pending the actual yearly cap number. If its front-loaded, that would make me feel better but Dugger has never made a Pro Bowl, and now he's one of the top paid safeties on the market, despite teams clearly not paying safeties this offseason. As far as we know, we weren't negotiating against anyone except ourselves. Just feels like Dugger was whining and Mayo pressured Wolf to get something done so it wasn't a toxic situation heading into training camp. Ultimately, just feels like a waste. I hope I'm wrong.

Ultimately, just feels like a waste. I hope I'm wrong. I agree with the 1st bolded statement...it's too early to judge the deal until the accounting is made public. They have plenty of financial flexibility that they are obviously rolling into next season. If the accounting makes years 3 & 4 easily managed, who cares? They need good, experienced players now - especially on defense because the focus (rightfully so) will be on building the offense and that will be a multi year process. My take is that Dugger is a Patriot and should be motivated to take the field as such - I don't care if it cost a few dollars more tpo make that happen. I'm not in the locker room, meeting rooms or at practices - I don't have enough information to accurately gauge the player's value or the soundness of the contract.
The 2nd bolded statement is not directed solely at you - the forum is chock full of posters guessing what players and management are thinking and what they're motivations are for doing things we don't agree with or don't understand. It's very unbecoming.

That's fair, I'm not here assuming I know what led to this, it just feels like that to me. We heard the rumors about Dugger being unhappy about the transition tag and Mayo as a first year HC probably doesn't want to deal with an upset player out of the gate. Ultimately, unless we hear that another team came in and made a similar offer, we likely outbid ourselves and I never like that. I get we're bad right now, but there's no reason we couldn't have gotten him for 4 years but 12 instead of 14.5 million IMO.

Eagles exercise 5th year option on D Smith and extend him for 3/$75 with $51m guaranteed. that's what good teams do

BB signed a lot of guys over the years that we considered jags who turned out to be decent role players or even more. But I agree, I'm not feeling it with his signings. At risk of sounding like a broken record, I'm becoming increasingly convinced that BB's problem wasn't that he wasn't listening to these guys, but that he was. But I'll let this season play out. The whole season. People will be quick to make snap judgments but unless I see a total shit show I'll let the entire season play out. We've seen teams with new coaches and such start off undefeated only to suck (Josh/Denver) and the opposite. We'll see.

We've seen teams with new coaches and such start off undefeated only to suck (Josh/Denver) and the opposite. We'll see. BB largely drafted great athletes, succeed or fail... what BB along with every other great team builder throughout history generally did was draft good/great athletes. Technique and all that other sht you hopefully can teach. There's no teaching athleticism; speed, quickness, explosion, strength, measurables... the best players in history (outside of the QB/Kicker position) have been its best athletes. Antonio Gibson looks like the new coach/advisor/coordinator said he "needed a third down back," so they went out to make a splash and got the best "name" available. Not that he's a bad signing because he's not, as long as he's not turning the ball over. He's an exceptional athlete. AG... protect the ball! Sione Takitaki is also a very good athlete, but is what he is. A special team's ace and occasional defender at a position they prefer to use strong safeties... but still a very good athlete. Austin Hooper is in that "good" not "great" athlete tier, he's a very good technician and better than average athlete. That's better than average. After those three, the outside free agent signings have been... not so much. I have no problem with signing a good technician who is an average athlete... one, maybe two... but why so many? Outside of every BB free agent they've brought back, it has been average to sub par athletes. Give me a break. I'm not winning the battle with more Rudy's... one Rudy is enough. I need horses. There were better free agent options available at LT, TE, WR and other positions, they either didn't pull the trigger or paid the wrong guy. They'd better draft well.

Double Wow!! That is QB money! Top WRs in this league are getting $20m+ per year. Tyreek Hill leads the pack with $30m per year. Crazy. That was once top QB money.

Yup, even more of a reason for this team in this situation, to use a 2nd/3rd rd pick on a WR in the draft vs trade it for a vet due a huge payday

The Lions apparently “have cash to burn” too.
They signed two key players today at top of the market deals.

Who are you getting at QB? I say that as someone who loves Joe Alt. But we need a QB.

Who are you getting at QB? I say that as someone who loves Joe Alt. But we need a QB. we take who we can. It won’t matter who we take if the OL sucks. If this is going to be a 3 year rebuild then fix the lines now. Honestly I wouldn’t have issue going Alt at 3 and DT in the second. We shouldn’t reach for any of our first 3 picks.

Could do ALT at 3 or slight trade down, and then do QB at 34 if one of the 6 drops that far. Maybe a trade down to 5 for ALT and then add LAC second and then take alt at 5, and best WR and QB available at 34 and 37.
