This is the earliest I have done this thread. The future of this team is its QB, not sure who that will be. Who will be the bridge QB?
What about WR? TE, DL etc., etc., etc.

Let's just say between now and next season: we won't hear much; won't see some surprising signings; no big names headed this way; big name draft picks.

If indeed Stid couldn’t play better than Cam, waive him now..let h8m get a chance elsewhere. I do not believe he could be any worse. But you’ll never know because BB or JMc is to scared to give it a try...
But 6-10 with cam ensures a better draft pick

Hope they play stidman these last 2 games. Unless BB has decided that hes never going to be more than a backup but at least give him a chance to play in a real game, as starter.

They need to solidify the lines first and foremost. Between older guys fading out and inexperienced guys trying to integrate in the lines are OK but need help.
Thuney is the biggest question mark. The need a true left tackle. I like Wynn but I believe he could be better utilized as a swing guy. He can play either side at guard or tackle on a pinch. Onwenu looks to be legit, If he can build off this season and stay healthy I think he could be great.
A space eating DT and a MLB are really needed on the DL. The DL currently has some nice role players that make some decent plays but with two guys setting the tone in the middle, the runs defense solidifies and the secondary can start to make plays on 3 & longs.
QB........oh boy.
This position has been scrutinized 100 ways to Sunday every day on this board. There are many different feelings and opinions regarding this topic but the one common factor among us all is that it needs to be addressed. I’ll think they should sign a veteran to compete with Stidham and draft a rookie in the early rounds if there’s one you like. If a player you really like falls a little bit, make a trade to move up and get him. Play the kid from day one. We’ve seen some growing pains from young QBs the past few seasons but in all they’ve been pretty good. The last few seasons we’ve seen Baltimore, Denver, LAC, Cincy, Jax, Cleveland, Arizona, NYG, MIA and Phi all play rookies and the kids have held their own. There’s no reason NE can do this as well.
WR.....double oh boy.
I’d sign one FA and then draft day trade for one. I’d see which player a team like KC, Pittsburgh, Saints or any team that always drafts good WR’s selects and then trade for them. Clearly our scouting department can’t do it so they should basically piggyback someone else’s.
TE is another position that could use some experience.
If Pitts falls to them they should really consider it, but he’s from Florida and we know how they work out in NE. I like Hunter Long out of BC too.

Yeah this is where I'm at. Carr Stafford Ryan(on a different contract). Maybe Cam. But no matter what happens, this team needs talent at receiver and TE. And now Fisch is gone, McD is probably gone imo. Why would a QB want to tale a pay cut to come here? What do we have to offer? A tough division, very little at skill position, brand new OC? This quote says it all. "The fit? Poor. If he’s released and gets to pick his destination, the Patriots are not an attractive spot with their best wideout being 34-year-old Julian Edelman and no proven tight ends. Also, if Josh McDaniels leaves for a head coaching gig, who’s Stafford working with? A fairly new OC in Jedd Fisch?" |

Pretty sure BB may just know something about this concept as well. Of course we all are waiting to see what happens at QB. Holding out hope that BB goes and gets a shiny expensive toy is most likely a waste of energy. The guy likes to build teams with (mostly) blue collar guys. He's done it for a long time. Nobody understands MORE than BB about replacing the GOAT. How that transpired isn't important anymore. How he moves forward is. |

Who do I want the bridge QB to be? It's Christmas Day, and I want Marcus Mariota.
Who will the bridge QB be? I'd guess Jacoby Brissett.
I then want them to end up with Trey Lance as the future of the franchise... also think Mac Jones is a terrific fit. Zach Wilson seems to have played himself into maybe the QB2 slot, so while I'd love to see him in Foxoboro, it's seeming less and less likely. Desmond Ridder from Cincinnati is a name that not many are talking about, and Carson Strong from Nevada is a bigtime wildcard. If he declares (he's a RS Soph), I think you'll start hearing his name tied to NE.
What FA's do I think they might target (outside of our own)?

It is about whether he truly has desirable upside. Some players take a while. QBs mostly need a few years. Whether they start early on or not. Some can be very good very early on. But they need a system they fit into, very good coaching, a good O line and at least sound targets. Fans are way to quick to discard young players. Way too quick. Now if BB does get rid of him it will be because he sees this guy every day and has a real idea or a much much better idea of what we have and don't have in Stid. But if he keeps him that tells me he believes there is yet potential and BB wants to coach this guy up to compete. |

With cap issues around the league I winder if in fact we wont see such exorbitant prices for guards and we might be able to keep Thuney... Personally I tend to want to build from the trenches first. And I always favor having a special LBing corps. THis is perhaps in part of holdover to football and not today's NBA in the NFL where secondary is paramount. Still, the running game seem sot be making a case for relevance in the last couple of years. But back to Thuney, I hope we do keep him.
