My prayers and sympathies go out to those folks in Southeastern Louisiana and New Orleans. Hurricane Ida is a monster storm, which has been upgraded to a strong Category 4, with sustained winds of 150 mph - which could reach a Category 5 (sustained winds of 157 mph or better): www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-58372746.ampIn New Orleans, they'll likely have winds of up to 90 mph. But the big problem for that city is flooding. This hurricane is a huge rain maker, which should drop over a foot of rain into Lake Ponchatrain and the city. New Orleans is a town that's already below sea level - and the flooding could be a major problem: www.nola.com/news/environment/article_9e74b44c-6aad-51b0-adcb-af07a317c966.amp.html God help these folks.

It baffles me, though, why anyone would choose to live so close to a very large body of water (the Gulf), in a hurricane zone, when you are already below sea level.

Below sea level that’s a problem.🥺 I just hope all those people evacuated.

Incidentally, today Mark's the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.
Sustained winds are now at 150 mph, with wind gusts around the eye at 180 mph.
Damn.

Hope it loses steam and isn’t that bad. It seems like the media loves to hype up all of these hurricanes as they near land. I’m not trying to down play it, for all I know it’s really bad, but we’ve seen a lot of these that don’t end up being nearly as bad as they hype them up to be. Hopefully that’s the case here.

Luckily the swamp is a storm buffer. When they hit a sand beach it’s full force. I’ve been through a few hurricanes, other than debris it’s the storm surge that’s deadly. Can be similar to a flash flood when the tides coming in.
