Of course they are open to offers. Someone wants to give them a ridiculous deal, they'll do it. All the teams are open to offers. Thats very different than making offers or shopping your pick.

I believe they stay at #3 and pick a QB

I believe they stay at #3 and pick a QB I think trades to two teams makes sense; especially if the QB that they really want is NOT on the board when the the #3 pick draft pick comes up against the 10 minute clock: 1) NYG. The #3 for their 2024 #6 (1st rd), #47 (2nd rd) , #70 (3rd rd) and their 2025 1st round pick. Patriots can pick up a QB or OT at the #6 or a QB/OT/WR with their #34 and #47.
2. Minnesota. The #3 for their 2024 #11 (1st rd), #23 (1st rd), #108 (4th rd), and 2025 1st round pick. Patriots can pick QB/LT/WR with picks #11, #23, and #34.
I'd prefer option 1

A smokescreen for what?

a smokescreen that is common for all teams this time of the year....lol. It's not like the Patriots are the only team that are throwing smoke and mirrors right now.

I know what a smokescreen is in the context of the draft, but what is NE trying to accomplish with it? They have the #3 pick, and can take whichever available QB they prefer at #3. Who are they trying to deceive? How does saying they're open to trading the pick present a smokescreen?

for me, the Giants pick is not enough. I believe they will need two 1st round picks this year and one 1st round pick next year to move.

but are they really open to trading out or is that a smokescreen? Again, a smokescreen for what? Who are they trying to deceive with this info? My gut feeling is that they haven’t gotten the types of trade offers that some here think they might get. I think they are trying to drum up interest and see what the best offers really are. I think they are hoping for an offer similar to what SF gave for the Trey a Lance pick, but it wouldn’t shock me if they aren’t getting offered that type of pick package. I think they are just trying to see what the best trade offer is, but in the end I don’t think they will be happy with trade offers and pick at #3. Just hunches.

That is alerting other teams to start putting their BEST offers together for #3 and playing the teams off each other. Or the smokescreen may just be they are not trading no matter what!

I would think teams would make best/serious offers while the Pats are on the clock, which would allow teams to know which QB was available at #3. a team might offer a boat load for Maye but not Daniels, or vice versa

That's not a smokescreen though. I also don't think other teams have to wait for Wolf to advertise it before they call to gauge interest and/or make an offer.

I don't see any need to communicate with the other 31 teams in this way. IMO it's more likely pointed toward fan's and the media. As far as their motives for this message goes, that would just be speculation and there's too much of that out and about already.

If they really want to smokescreen they should tell everyone that will listen they want MHJ. I believe teams that really want to draft him will offer “the bag” to NE to get him. AZ has the 4 &27 but don’t think NE will select him, but what if they did? How bad do they want him?
