Who will be creating the defensive game plans? Who will be calling the defensive plays? What kinds of defensive schemes will they be playing? Will the players be coaching up the coaches - or will the coaches be coaching up the players?
Defensive Coordinator = DeMarcus Covington
Defensive Coach Assistant = Vinny Depalma Defensive Coach Assistant = Jamael Lett Defensive Coach Assistant = Keith Jones Defensive Line Coach = Jerry Montgomery
Safety Coach = Brian Bellichick Cornerbacks Coach = Mike Pellegrino OLB Coach = Drew Wilkins
ILB Coach = Dont'a Hightower

you bring a really interesting point here many are touting this defense as a top 5 defense. maybe they were last season. maybe top 10. neither here nor there. same players, but lots of new coaches. will there be continuity?

More than likely a big step back after losing BB and Stevie B BB still a genius on defensive side of ball. He will be sorely missed, which is why I’m wondering what impact new coaches will have on defensive side of ball

I just cant see it with hightower. See how long he lasts. Be a lot of time away from the family interesting I was part of a discussion a while back with Troy Brown at en event, and he was saying at that time he was departing his stab at a media slot and going into coaching part time. not traveling. staying home. that morphed into more and more responsibilities, and he ended up the teams WR coach after a number of years. long strory short, the teams WR's have been horrible. not saying it was his fault. but I always wondered about his buy in.

I just see this year's defensive players coaching up the defensive coaches. Brian Belichick as Safeties coach? I think Steve Belichick admitted to being coached up by McCourty.

Brian has been the safeties coach for 5 years. Every defensive coach has multiple years coaching their positions except Hightower, who was considered a coach on the field during his playing days. You should check out the coach's page on Pat's.com and Google for some insight. Covington (Defensive Coordinator) has been on the staff (linebackers and then DL) for 8 years. The loss of BB will definitely be felt but these guys are certainly not interns who will require the players to guide them through the process.

I think there will be some growing pains that always accompanying a change in coaches. That said, unless there is a dramatic change in scheme or philosophy things will settle down after a few games.

I think the change in scheme and philosophy on offense will be an issue. Sprinkle in the lack of LT, a rookie QB and I think we see an offense that ends up struggling most of the year. I expect year 2 with the same coaching staff and a full year under Maye’s belt we see a much better offense. Did i mention they don’t have a LT?

I hope so. I figure it will take 7-8 games for coaching and players to build chemistry and team identity

We will find out if they were being carried by coaching and scheme or if they are legitimately a talented top D.

I thought Steve Belichick was Safeties coach? If not, what did Steve B do? He coached OLB and was the play caller the last few years, before that I think he was coaching the secondary.

If I recall what Steve said was he respected the experience of his safeties and was happy to listen to what they were seeing on the field. He understood that he didn’t know everything at the position and that his players gave him a lot of valuable insight. The guy approached his job being humble and willing to keep his eyes and ears open. I liked Steve on the staff. He clearly cared about improving his players and wanted to become a better coach. I hope Brian has the same approach. If the coaches are as hungry as the young players, this defense should be exciting to watch. Injuries aside, I expect this unit to keep the Pats in games this season. Offensive points and ST will be the biggest X factor. Go Pats!
