I remember him as 1 of only 2 QBs whose names I actually new when I was 12. Johnny U was the other. RIP.

Rest in peace YA, he was a Very good QB at that time. Only problem was there was another named Bart Starr, he also lost to one of the Best Defenses ever the Bears.

People remember him more back east for his later years with the GIants when he set the record for TDs in a season at 36 - that stood for decades until they changed the rules for the likes of domed, pampered Manning and the passing game. His career was more with the 49ers. He was good. Not a Bart Starr and not a Johnny Unitas and not (the guy who might actually have been the best) Sonny Jurgensen. But he was pretty good.
