From Yahoo.com: Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Chris Long will be donating his final 10 game checks from the 2017 season to charitable causes. Combined with the six checks he gave to Charlottesville scholarship causes in the wake of white supremacist riots there, Long will play the entire 2017 season without pay. Long announced via Twitter on Wednesday that he would be giving the 10 checks to charitable organizations in Philadelphia, Boston, and St. Louis “whose missions focus on making education easily accessible to underserved youth while also providing students the support they need to develop strong social and emotional character.” Long is using the donations as a kickoff to his “Pledge 10 for Tomorrow” drive, and hopes his checks will be matched by pledges. (To donate, click here.) “In my 10th year, I want to celebrate the awesome opportunity I’ve had to play football by giving back to the communities that have given me that gift,” Long said in a statement. “Educational opportunity and equity are the best gateway to a better tomorrow for everyone in America.” Long has been one of the more outspoken players in the recent wave of NFL activism, supporting teammate Malcolm Jenkins in his protest and criticizing those who would try to slap the tired “stick to sports” label on him. “If you listen to people who tell you to ‘Stick to sports,’ I would ask them, ‘Do you stick to whatever your occupation is?’ ” Long said in August. “People always want to hear from athletes when they agree with them. When we voice a [dissenting] opinion, they have an issue with it. I think that athletes are role models. We should think about what we’re saying, then speak. And speak wisely.” Donating an entire season’s worth of checks seems a pretty wise way to demonstrate values.

He is a man who stands by his convictions. Agree with him or not on specific issues, that's an admirable trait.

he was a player that simply saw his performance differently than the coaching staff did, and wanted to have a chance to play more often. cant blame a player for wanting to play more snaps. The Pats could use him now for the rotation at end, and in the locker room

Over the years I am sorry to say I have become very cynical of the various charitable organizations when you really look at fund received vs those actually getting to the needy...
I research thoroughly those that I give to before donating... Most are reputable but the likes of Red Cross or united way piss me off... But that just me..
C Long is indeed walking the walk and I say he's a true American and should be proud..

You can agree or not with his politics but you have to respect a person who puts their money where their mouth is.
