Although I've been reading this forum from time to time, this is my first post in many weeks. The main reason why I stopped participating is because there were way too many threads that deteriorated in one way or another into politcal arguments. However, because this is primarily a thread about arguments that derive from political discussions I would like to write my 2 cents about this topic. Needless to say that our country is extremely politically divided right now and feelings on both sides are so strong (including my own) that no one is ever going to win an argument and no one is ever going to change anybody else's mind. One "political" topic that was continuously brought up on the General Discussion Board was the kneeling issue. Whenever this topic was brought up I would become furious. I knew that if I chose to participate, I would get so mad that I would say things that would probably get me banned. I served in the Military during the Vietnam War. 58,000 Soldiers lost their lives and countless thousands of others became totally screwed up including freinds of mine. I am still extremely bitter about what happened over there. I could go on and on about how badly Vets were treated coming back from Nam. The term "Baby Killers" were often used in place of "Heroes". But that was then and this is now. And speaking of now, if I was at a game today and someone wanted to kneel to protest something, I might want to join with them to protest draft dodgers wrapping themselves up in the flag while thinking it's OK to send everyone elses son and daughter off to war while keeping their own families out of harms way. So that would be my protest. I served and hope all the flag wavers wouldn't have a problem with that. And if they didn't like what I did that would be there right. This is still America last time I checked. But in closing I really, really, really hope that we can keep politics off the General Discussion Board and have strict enforcement because we can yell and scream about politics on the General Disussion Board and the only thing we would accomplish is to destroy what is supposed to be a place where New England Patriot Fans can come to enjoy discussing our beloved team. I hear what you say and can totally sympathize. The one thing that bothered me, though, other than the kneeling itself, was people turning this into an anti-vet thing. I never served. I was in defense working on ICBM stuff. To me, the kneeling was an insult to AMERICA, not just to AMERICAN GIs. It was only ALSO to GIs because they, like all of us, are part of America.

I agree with ATJ, and think having the political forum helps reduce the number of political discussions taking place in the main forum. If you do decide to remove the political forum, I think you'll need moderators to police the main forum and delete political posts as they appear. So you can't control yourself is what you're saying? Funny how we never had a political roundtable prior to this new page being added here, how did we ever get on without one? Get rid of it, why do we even have to have this debate on a football forum... oh yeah, because the people who want to talk politics love to debate nonsense. I should be able to click on "recent posts" and read the latest football posts, not read a lot of bullshit that amounts to nothing. Ahhh...there was DEFINITELY a political (maybe it was called off topic) discussion forum on BDC. I know because I participated in it regularly. It wasn't as volatile as this one. Removing politics from the forum will not prevent heinous comments. You have to know that. If people don't want to participate, they don't have to.

Pretty much every forum you go to has an 'Off Topic" section. If people can't handle politics, don't go there. I come here to discuss "THINGS" with other Pats fans, not just to discuss the Pats. That would be completely BORING.

There were forums on BDC for basket weaving, for soap opera gossip, and for every topic anyone could possibly want... this is a Patriots forum. This isn't BDC. Thing get pretty heated on the football threads, what you won't see is death threats because politics and football are completely different and everyone knows that. Comparing the two is absurd, I argue with Rkarp on this site daily and it doesn't result in death threats or even over the top insults. It's mostly jabs about our opinions on football. Politics is personal, football at the end of the day is fluff. And to those suggesting that I simply don't visit the off topic site, I ask why? Why am I under threat of losing this site because a small group of posters can't join the political site Rkarp linked to as an alternative? Why is the "recent posts" option at the top of my page no longer available to me because I have to wade through the political gibberish to find the football posts on a football forum? You guys leave. What's the problem? I'm not in the wrong place, you are.

And has Proboards threatened to shut this forum down?

I've yet to hear a sports discussion radio show or forum that doesn't sometimes involve politics. I haven't lived in Boston for years now, but I certainly remember Dennis & Callaghan and Mustard & Johnson on WEEI (I bet you can guess which I liked better ). Politics was a huge part of both those shows. It's just natural that sports links to current events. I can't control myself. Neither can a lot of people. Trying to suppress it seems like a lot of work. "Get a room" seems an easy solution . . . as long as there is a room. So since they can't control themselves on the radio gives you the green light? If I want sports talk, and those clowns are talking politics on WEEI, I CHANGE THE STATION!!! What are you 5? You can't control NOT posting something? Stop being such a selfish jackass.

I think self-control in what we post is something we all lack at times. Case in point. (And absolutely no hard feelings.)

Folks, I bolded two spots, one in each of Wozzy's and 347pg's comments. Don't worry too much about this If ProBoards ever shuts this forum off, then, I will develop another - stand-alone - forum open to you and the World to see. Makes me angry and sad to think that the membership of the wonderful Patriots Fans here would collectively be lost. I won't allow that to happen! I will then give it over to TFB12 if he is willing or someone else. I would maintain the web-based forum for a while. I know of a few other Pats forums but they don't measure up as this one does ..... Long story on that! If this forum ever gets deleted suddenly by ProBoards, I will need a way to give notice to all through those other Pats forums. Or just do a search for "New England Patriots forum'. I know how to get you to number one on the search list by my 'Meta code' on the web-site. OK? For now, don't feel concerned about a shut down here; I doubt it will happen. Thanks to you all .... Wozzy, remember back on BDC you asked about another Pats forum when they threatened to shut down? I answered you by saying, "what exactly do you want"? I suppose you missed it .... lolz

I don't know what ProBoards said to the Administrator, but I'd seriously doubt that ProBoards would shut it down because of one complaint not about the forum itself but about a particular post by one poster. The complaint was about the poster not the forum. Now if ProBoards got repeated complaints and found multiple offensive posts they might be moved to shut it down. But the situation is far from that. Just don't post things that imply you want individuals to die and everything should be okay.

You might be right but in the future don’t be a fool and just report stuff to the admin as many times as it takes for him to do something about it, instead of pro boards. Heck, even post it in the regular form complaining that the admin has done nothing before going to pro boards next time.

ok, so this whole situation was most likely created by some standard response by a website...this is a great site, chill out, and all will be good...and so far as politics go, it is crucial to our society...this however is our refuge...go Pats!!!

oh come on. Prolate is a great poster and I wish he posted more so on the football site. his film posting was must read over at BDC.
I venture over to the political site time and again. truthfully, I only read Prolates posts (and post some of mine). Pro and I do not agree on most everything over there, but he posts numerous links that I would never venture to on my own. I get a different perspective reading his posts. I may not agree with his, but he adds a different perspective
the guy felt threatened. that should not happen here. he should not be banned. the person doing the threatening should be put on leave for 1 month. bet that would end the threats
