Cancelled a playoff game due to snow. Ummm…what?! Are you kidding me? That’s absolutely absurd. Since when can football players not play in the snow? Remember the 2001 AFC Divisional game? Man it pisses me off how weak and soft the league is today. Shameful.

To be fair, NY State apparently wanted to cancel the game, not the NFL. With up to 3 feet of snow predicted, the state didn't want to have to deal with stranded traffic going in and out of the stadium.

Thank goodness the Massachusetts Gov and the NFL weren’t such pussies in the Divisional Game in 2001. Yeah, but this snowfall is predicted to be much worse. And I've driven through a Buffalo lake effect snowstorm (coming back to Toronto from Boston after a Pats game actually). The worst driving conditions I think I've ever been in. I had to pull over on I-90 because I couldn't see anything. It was a complete white out that night.

Or they'd get stranded on I-90 and the National Guard would have to be called out to keep them from freezing or asphyxiating in their cars as happened in the blizzard of 77 in NY and 78 in Boston. Three feet of snow falling in a short time is a serious problem if there are lots of cars on the road, as there would be after a football game. I know we all want to bitch and moan about how soft we've become and about Goodell and his conspiracies, but this is just common sense.

A good old fashioned snow game would have been awesome. This I agree with. It would have been a blast. But you can't have 60,000 people traveling to and from the game while that much snow is falling. That lake effect snow falls heavy and fast. If you're driving, there's a good chance you'll be stranded on the highway for hours.

If people didn’t want to risk the commute to the game, they could have stayed home. Let those who decide to go, go. They can keep the roads open. This is a weak decision.

It's a responsible one. Rescheduling the 1992 Apple Cup probably would have been responsible too. But it would have robbed us of one of the all time great WSU games. Snowed like hell that day and night in blizzard conditions. Many fans had to make the 80 mile drive through desolate wheat country from Pullman to Spokane after the game. Vehicles weren’t nearly as reliable or as good in the snow back then. But it was a full stadium. It was an AMAZING snow game. A tremendous, snowy evening on the Palouse. And nobody died driving home. Just play the snow game. Quit trying to coddle society.

Anyway, my basic point is this isn't the NFL getting soft—it's the state of New York pushing the NFL not to go forward with an event that might cause an expensive mess for the state.

NFL in the 90’s probably would have said “screw it” and played the game in the snow. The league is getting ridiculously soft. There are many examples of this.
