Even though it's unlikely that the Patriots end up with Penix, I thought it would be interesting to focus on his throwing mechanics vs. Michael Vick (because he is being compared with Michael Vick).
I don't know shyte about throwing mechanics, so, will not opine on who has better throwing mechanics.
Nor will I opine on Penix or project his ceiling, floor, success, failure in the NFL.
It appears to my untrained eyes that their mechanics are very different from each other, the only commonality is that they're both lefties.
I think Penix' 3/4 sidearm throw will have a launch position and be prone to more batted down or deflected passes, which may end up being INT. In addition, it seems that he will also be more prone to get his arm hit from behind; causing fumbles - and possibly resulting in flutterballs and INTs.
Michael Vick's throwing motion is more upright and compact to his body. I don't recall if anyone being concerned about his throwing mechanics.
Figured this might give us something to talk about apart from BB, Brady, or McDorkle.....

So what you’re saying is everything that’s wrong with his throwing mechanics are Belichick’s fault?

Or that Penix will be no more effective as a passer in the NFL than Vick? Never mind that Penix is arguably the best pure pocket passer in the past 5 years (Yes, he is a better - better combo of arm strength, accuracy and timing - passer than Joe Burrow), he will not be a better QB than Vick because of his mechanics.

When it comes to throwing mechanics, I just do not understand why people (young players and coaches) don't do the obvious. Go watch Tom Brady throw the ball and incorporate as much of that as possible. He does pretty much everything right. So does Drew Brees. Watch Brees at the beginning and Brady toward the end of the video. Oh, and don't listen to the blowhards talking or drawing the etch-a-sketch. Just watch Brady and Brees and compare their motion to your favorite QB's. The farther your QB is from Brees/Brady form, the worse your QB is.
EDIT: ignore the other QBs on this film. Their throwing motions are very mid.

The point is that he does not get the respect he deserves. What does a college player need to do to get the same level of respect that QBs who done less get? Also, you evaluate QB on whatever information is available. For now, what they have is their body of work in college. Everything else is imaginary. Throwing mechanics is only an issue when a QB is lacking in accuracy and/or juice behind his throws. He has both. Better than anyone else.

Besides, you could say that about any college QB going to the NFL. Nobody knows who will pan out or why.

Penix is nothing like Vick, Lamar Jackson is.
Penix is a passer, passed for accuracy in college. He’s also not as fast or as good a runner.

Besides, you could say that about any college QB going to the NFL. Nobody knows who will pan out or why.You do not. But you still have to make a decision on what to do on R1P3. You are just trying to beat the probability of failure, which is high. So you try to make the best decision based on the facts at hand. All you have is what they have done in college. But there is a difference between what they have done and what people speculate they could have done (if they had this, if they had that). A while back (at least 10 years now), I saw a video of a GM talking about a draft prospect WR whom he viewed as someone who had all the awesome physical and athletic tools (Sorry, I cannot remember who the GM was or who the WR was). But he would not assign a high grade on the prospect because with all the tools he possessed, the WR could not pull them all together and translate them into performance (which shows up in stats). I am not saying that stats are the most important thing. I am just saying that it is important enough not to disregard.
