Let the conflicting training camp reports begin...read that Mac Jones fit some passes in some tight spaces today, then read that he didn’t. Read that he clearly has a strong arm, yet not strong velocity (and that’s a problem). Read that Mac won the battle against Newton, then read that he really didn’t...and that no one won the QB battle today. Curran was pretty high on him today and so was Jeff Howe. Both sighted five passes in particular in the red zone where he wasn’t effected by going through his progressions and finding the open man, and then fitting the ball in there...with Curran mentioning fitting the ball in there with accuracy and a quick release. That he clearly outplayed Newton - who seemed to struggle with accuracy. I think the best compliment was not how Mac compared to Newton, but rather how Mac compared to Brissett, Stidham and Garoppolo at the early stages...and Mac was head and shoulders above all three. I think that’s encouraging. This is the beauty of the actual football. We speculate all off-season about what this might mean ... or what that might lead to ... or how the other thing will play out. And now the camps are open, and we are all free to ... ummmmm .... ... continue speculating. If you don't like the report you got ... go read a different one. Fun times in America! And it won't stop in the season either. Why was that pass intercepted? Was it a bad pass or did the WR run the wrong route? Me: What a terrible f'n pass. TC: That was on the receiver. He ran the wrong route. TFB12: The receiver couldn't get separation. Me: Stop blaming the receiver, Cam sucks. TC: Cam isn't even the QB. Oklahoma: So what. Clam still sucks and he would have thrown that int if he were in there. Rkarp: Wozzy clearly doesn't understand the cap. The rest of us: Huh? Solly: I knew we shouldn't have drafted Mac. Babe (from a distant forum far far away): Toxic Billy doesn't have the GOAT to bail him out anymore. P-Mike: Writes a novel I'm not capable of imitating, but it is good. Me: So we all agree it was on the receiver?

things I took away from reading various reports (I am hoping to be at practice Friday if open to the public and weather permits)
-we have high hopes for Dugger, but Phillips is borderline pro bowler S that can cover the TE and play in the box. -Agholor is as quick and fast as advertised -Harry looks more confident -Cam threw some lasers. -a good 10-12 players are not yet ready to practice in pads -MattyP is on the field

I really hope I have time to get down to camp this summer and take a look for myself (although I’ve certainly been wrong with using my own two eyes as well). Truth is none of us really know, coaches included to a certain extent, until the real games start. But most of the fun really is in the speculation.

And I suspect there is a bit of "grading on a scale" going on with Mac observations for that very reason. I’m assuming you mean that Curran is observing with a slight bias now because of previous comments? If so I tend to agree. There’s a few others that I “trust” and one of them is Beddard, but then again Beddard also might be biased because he has clearly hitched his wagon to Mac as well?

I don't think Curran is beholden to his previous comments. He can and has flipped on players before. He's also careful to leave himself wiggle room. When I say grade on a scale (grade on a curve) I mean he and others are holding him to a different standard, wittingly or not, because he is a rookie. He's a rookie that in their opinion looks better than any other rookie they have seen with the Pats at this point. If he was an experienced vet they would probably be a little harder on him and more critical. But you can see it on their faces that they think this kid is impressive at this stage.

I'm rolling with Gunner... not only do I like quick, tough, self-made football players, but I dig his sense of style too... much like I did with Jules. Gunner was my official camp binkie as a rookie. I have to look at the rules to see if I can have the same binkie twice. But I will definitely root for him and for many of the same reasons. I'd love for him to step up as a WR. Haha, we can write our own rule book... and if you wanna have Gunner as your binkie again, do it up! And, I'd say my defensive guy in camp is Uche.

Fellowship of the Rings right here! LFG! Okay ... Weird Alert! But, could you imagine if Ted Bruschi and Jimmy Garrapolo somehow made a baby together? It would be the most beautiful human who ever existed.

Nailed it in your first line - that is f****n mega-weird. It has recently been brought to my attention that -- in this fine new age -- it is perfectly acceptable for me to claim no responsibility for the stuff that comes out of my mouth. ( or ... you know ... off the tips of my fingers, as the case may be )

He is simply telling it like he sees it. And he says he’s seeing it again, zero improvement, and he’s been saying that since the first day of OTA’s.

His weekly analysis last year was very much anti Cam and that was totally fair. I think if he saw anybody other than Cam throwing the ball well hed be jumping for joy honestly.

I really haven’t started watching his podcasts till this year...and even then not all that often. His partner on the casts isn’t too bad, unlike the guy with Curran (who I can’t stand to even look at for some reason).

Yeah but Zo is also high! It’s best not to believe too much of what we hear second hand during camp, by the end these guys will have us running in circles trying to figure out who is good. Joint practices and preseason will sort it out.
