If an appeal is filed, she’ll inevitably be asked to maintain the status quo until the Supreme Court decides whether to take up the case. (The Supreme Court agrees to take only a very small fraction of the cases presented to it.) Here’s where it gets very interesting — and potential very political. Ordinarily, Justice Ginsburg’s ideology and philosophies ordinarily would make her more likely than not to grant the stay. In this case, however, there’s a potential complication. His name is Donald Trump. Brady has made no bones about his friendship with Trump. And Justice Ginsburg has made no bones about her disdain for Trump. “He is a faker,” Justice Ginsburg said earlier this week about Trump. “He has no consistency about him. He says whatever comes into his head at the moment. He really has an ego. … How has he gotten away with not turning over his tax returns? The press seems to be very gentle with him on that.” Said Brady in December: “Donald is a good friend of mine. I have known him for a long time. I support all my friends. That is what I have to say. He’s a good friend of mine.” To complete the loop, here’s what Brady’s “good friend” said about Ginsburg early Wednesday morning on (where else?) Twitter: “Justice Ginsburg of the U.S. Supreme Court has embarrassed all by making very dumb political statements about me. Her mind is shot — resign!” Should any of that matter to whether Justice Ginsburg grants a stay? No. Do issues like that sometimes creep into the matters pending in federal appeals courts presided over by judges who wouldn’t have gotten those jobs in the first place if they weren’t adept at playing political games during their careers? I think the question answers itself.

I think trumps right about her. She should resign. Unfortunately what went from a fairly decent shot at the SC hearing the case went to a long shot. Besides hating RG and his minions in the NFL office I would put our political system and the people running it right on up there with Goodell.

I am done with the NFL. I am never watching another game in my life but will practice civil disobedience when I see enemy teams, maybe an accidental beer spill or tripping someone in a Colts shirt at the airport, but never again, cancelling NFL Sunday Ticket tomorrow

This is a red letter day for some Pats followers. Look at it this way: if the Pats don't go undefeated during the suspension, it is more evidence that the Pats dynasty was pure Brady. Pretty sure they can go 3-1, losing only on the road to a probable top 5 team in the Cardinals, and have it be considered a victory. Only if they go 1-3 can you really start to say "hmmm, maybe it was more Brady than anything else?" But Matt Cassel seemed to already disprove that when he went 11-5 and was a very good QB in this system back in '08 and then was somewhere between mediocre and terrible everywhere else, all during what should have been his prime seasons.

I was very optimistic about this, so wow... I'm very disappointed today. I really thought Brady had a good chance here. Sounds like Brady is prepared to fight on but this ruling is a terrible blow.

If there is one thing this entire board can be distilled down to, it's "who is the one figure responsible for the Patriots success". My post was taking a jab at that notion.

Now there's talk about Edelman and Amendola not being ready for the opening of the season. That wouldn't be good. I guess we just gotta sit back and see how things go through training camp and stuff.

Relax. Ginsburg will grant the stay. Brady doesn't even have to file the cert petition until mid-October, which can be extended basically just by asking real nice. Then the NFL gets to respond and all the amicus folks get to weigh in, again.
It will be December or January before the SC even decides whether to take the case. So, if Brady is suspended at all it won't be until next season.
At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
