Happy October!
Starting this later than usual, but figured I'd fire it up, as we're 4+ weeks into the CFB season.
As things stand today, I think NE could head in any direction in Rd 1... and that includes QB, with ND OT Joe Alt being my pick in the top 3rd/half of Rd 1.
Below are (14) names that interest me at this stage in the season, and things could change as more tape/info becomes available:
Offense:
-Joe Alt OT Notre Dame -Graham Barton OT Duke -JC Latham OT Alabama -Brock Bowers TE Georgia -Troy Franklin WR Oregon -Rome Odunze WR Washington -Shedeur Sanders QB Colorado
Defense:
-Cooper DeJean CB/S Iowa -Kamren Kinchens S Miami -Tyler Nubin S Minnesota -Jer'Zhan "Johnny" Newton DT Illinois -Maason Smith DT LSU -Laiatu Latu EDGE UCLA -Tommy Eichenberg LB Ohio State

Supposed to be one of the best QB drafts ever. Hope BB gets the green light from Krafty to draft one in the first.

Right now I feel like it's Caleb Williams, who's probably as close to Patrick Mahomes as we'll see, and everyone else. I'd like to see one in the early rounds too... and Rd 1 is very much in play.

I would love to like caleb williams but the USC to NFL transition scares me. I think USC will get picked off somewhere. I wasn’t impressed against Colorado. You can pick up apart their defense. I wonder how how tall Caleb Williams is. He looks about 6 feet. Mahomes was 6’2 225. Their body types are different.

If they go qb in round 1, I think Williams is out of their reach and will be either boom or bust depending on if his body can withstand the nfl hits over time. That is the question with any qb, but I find myself asking that more when the qb isn’t prototypical size. If they are looking qb round 1, I’d rather see drake maye because Williams should go #1 and it won’t cost as much for a trade up to get maye as it would for a trade up for Williams. Maye has the prototypical size, a good to great arm, accuracy and athleticism. If he develops and works out, he could be the pats counter to Josh Allen with a higher degree of accuracy earlier in his career. I would love the pats to get the te from Georgia too, or a talent ot, but by the time the year ends, we should know if mac is the guy or has the potential to be the guy, or if it’s time to move forward.

They're never going to take a QB in Round 1 and they shouldn't. I don't care which side of the ball but I want a stud lineman.

On one of the other threads, I said he will win the Heisman. There are some QBs who are trying to keep that from being an easy choice. Right now, I would not even count Hartman out. How the team does over the rest of the season could be a big factor. Michael Penix out of Washington is the closest competition to Williams as of now. Leads in passing yards. Second to Williams in passing TDs.

I'm a dedicated NFL-only guy. Won't miss a Patriots game (even when they suck like now) but I don't get into college football. But I do keep an ear to the players as I enjoy the draft and look forward to who could come to New England.
I'm curious MBs thoughts on Drake Maye. Still early but seems to have a lot of promise. I like the size compared to these athletic 6 foot guys that get crushed every season.
Time will tell but this could be an interesting draft with some of the worst teams seemingly having their QB of the future already.

Don't know.
Bo Nix another Pac-12 QB to watch.
That said, there are some good ones from other conferences too.
Someone mentioned Maye. He's lagging a bit statistically this year. Not sure if that means anything for the NFL. FWIW, I think he and Daniels are the only ones among the stat leaders who is listed above 6-3.
Jayden Daniels is starting to build together some good stats. I saw a quarter of their loss to Ole Miss. He did not look bad. I thought there was something to build on. However, to me he looks so skinny. I guess that does not have to be a problem for QB (at least that's what TB taught us)
I will try to check out Brady Cook (Missouri) next weekend. The kid so far has 11 TDs and 0 INTs. LSU will be a good test.

That upcoming draft will be easy for the Pats: trade the barn and get your (supposedly) franchise QB.

after yesterday, i was glad to see this post. love williams and Maye as qbs. Have not seen alot of the other ones talked about. offensive line needs serious help and a true WR 1 is a priority now. would love the patriots to cut some of the older players and give a good look to the younger ones so we can see what they truly have.

Second to Williams in passing TDs. Hartman has been solid, and probably the best QB ND has had since Jimmy Clausen, but he's had two pedestrian games in a row, from a statistical standpoint and I don't see him having much of a shot at the Heisman, unless he really goes off the remainder of the season. ND's WR development will play a role as well, as they just don't have that go-to guy on the outside... sounds familiar, I know.
