agree if there is any thought on trading down, Penix might be their guy I assume having him in for an interview/physical is on the schedule. watching him throw in shorts and t-shirt is not going to change anyone's minds. that said, there are WR's and OL that will be at that pro day that I would think the PAts want to check out in person.

Penix scares me in so many ways. Yes he has a cannon for an arm, but he has so many other issues, and I don't think his strengths are going to transfer well to the NFL. Would love it if he proves me wrong, but I see him as fools gold and would not take him in the first at all.

I think his medical history is proof he is a fighter! He came back with flying colors and got a clean bill of health at the combine. Do you want to draft one of these guys and watch them miss 6 games for a migraine after they start getting NFL paychecks? (Caleb? Maye? McCarthy? Daniels?) What do we KNOW about the other QB's ability to overcome injury?

It's a risk I would not mind the Pats carrying for the next 3 seasons.

If we don’t interview every one or send scouts it must be because it’s being held up in a collaborative meeting that’s running over.
For some reason that “weeded dumpster” picture comes to mind.

Would love it if he proves me wrong, but I see him as fools gold and would not take him in the first at all. Other than the medical history, what other issues are you talking about? I do feel Penix is a rare talent. It's not often you see an arm that powerful come into the draft. There's really two things that jump out at me when I watch film on him. 1. His throwing mechanics. That left hander sidewinder throw of his takes just about a half second longer for him to get rid of the ball with. Problem in college when you're throwing to one of the best receiving sets there is? Not so much. Problem in the NFL when you have NFL level coverage and pass rushing, and you might not have the second (or arguably first) best WR to throw to who dominates on 50/50 balls? Yes. 2. His close to midrange game is suspect. I think having the most dominant go up and get in WR in college might have spoiled him to just chuck it out there. That's not going to work in the NFL. 3. I also worry about how he reacts when the pass rush collapses the pocket. I was such a huge Drew Bledsoe fan, but the one thing he did that drove me absolutely bananas is he threw his IQ out the window when the heat was on him and he then made STUPID mistakes. I see the same thing with Penix. The difference is, he's seen less heat behind that line. I fear when he gets to the NFL, if he's not behind a high end line, we're going to see him fold up and panic. I could be wrong, I want to be wrong, but the tape is pretty telling when you aren't watching his highlight reels. Only time will tell. In the meantime, he scares me. I grab him in the 2nd with the thinking that Williams, Maye, Daniels and McCarthy will be long gone and then we will have moved to the second and a little less promising tier. I wouldn't grab him in the first though, I think the risk is too high. He has the arm, and he has the smarts, but he's going to need to be coached up to NFL level. Do not think this is a guy who is just going to get to the NFL and make waves, I don't see that happening.

Hos 3/4 sidearm throw may result in more blocked passes, tipped passes, and int? Also not mobile. At this time, OL can't protect an immobile QB.

I love Penix. being left handed, his blind side protector would be Onwenu, not the LT. he does have a wind up throwing motion. is that correctable with out losing any arm strength? his injuries are a concern for me. I am sure he is 100% healthy, and probably even stronger than before the injuries. but why is he getting injured often? if he is under intense pressure, taking hits and thrown to the ground, will the toll cause additional injuries? I recall Brady talking about learning to take a hit, how to go to the ground. gave a ton of credit to Guerero for how his body responded to hits. is Penix more prone to injuries?

Obviously my original post was in jest, glad the Patriots are doing their due diligence on all QBs. Although I still don’t love Penix Jr, tbh

Count me amongst the people who think Michael Penix Jr. will be a better NFL QB than Drake Maye.
