As I posted on the other thread, I wouldn’t take a boom/bust project with the 3rd overall pick, I would have taken Harrison or Alt, those were both positions of real need, more likely to play sooner, and much less likely to bust………they have lots of needs, I would have preferred a trade down to get more picks……. The dude is not a project. They can play him right away if they wanted to but they will sit him out. I guess we’ll see, if Maye plays game 1, it is a mortal lock the Patriots are picking top 5 AGAIN next year Kid is 21, and played 21 NCAA games against not always the best competition, and regressed last year……..numero1, you are more than welcome to be in love with Maye, heck name your next child after him, but PLEASE, for your sake, don’t bet money on him playing right away, ain’t happening……..

You have common sense? Why? Because you say so?? I smell BS, and it's coming from Bob Kraft's barn. If we keep this up people will tell us to go get a room. I'm out. Bye honey! 😂

I found Bill’s entire commentary misleading and a thinly veiled attempt to discredit what the Patriots did (select Maye). I found him contradicting himself. His footwork is bad? Two nights ago Brian Hoyer is on television saying footwork is the easiest thing to correct. Did Belichick make any mention of his line sucking? Or him NOT having a line like Daniels, Maccarthy or Penix? Or receivers like the others? I just found the whole thing strange. I have previously been posting about the issues that BB pointed out, so I viewed his comments as pretty fair. It's not like he consulted me on what to say on TV. So I am not sure what makes you think his comments were a thinly veiled attempt to discredit the Pats. Also, as for Hoyer's breakdown, I thought the path he took in breaking down the film was led by the Curren, Perry and the producer. I do not think he was the one who selected the plays he broke down. What's a person breaking down going to say if you show him a play where the QB did things perfectly? And Perry mentioned footwork before Hoyer opened his mouth about the play. Perry is a Maye fanboy. So I did not like how Curran let Perry talk first about the first play they showed. IMO, there's more insight to be gained by looking at videos of all the times when the QB failed. You want to know if teh cause his failures have a pattern. I find it hilarious that people on these boards go gungho talking about how great a QB is after just watching his highlight reel on youtube. Well, he starts off pointing how Maye “compares himself” to Josh Allen, and has been doing that for a long time. I’d call that a shot right out of the gate. Makes a point to mention that the kid compares himself to Josh Allen, why not just call the kid an asshole? It would eliminate the thinly veiled attempt. Then he calls him talented and good sized. Good sized? He’s the biggest of all the quarterbacks taken in the first round this year. Then he shows him throwing into double coverage, telling us he has receivers open outside and inside…he does? Where? Then he shows “quick to come of receivers”, with a kid on a slant. He’s barely open and then covered. The line breaks down, he has half the defense piling in on top of him and he’s “quick to come off receivers”? He’s quick to leave the pocket? His line might suck worse than the one we have here. And then he points out he’s the worst quarterback in the pocket in this class, without adding any context. Like the line looking like it was drafted and built by BB. Whycnit just say, hey this is an immensely talented kid here, but he hasn’t played all that much and he’ll need time to hone his footwork and like everyone else, read NFL defenses. But he has maybe the best arm in the draft, he’s the biggest and tallest QB of all the top prospects, and he’s the youngest. Look, think about that fellas, this kid is young, we always talk about where a prospect will project to in 2-3 years. Can we see someone that projects higher to where this kid may go? Because he already has the best tools in the shed, and it’s not like he hasn’t used them, or demonstrated he can’t use them. Picture him being taught to use them better, and then try to imagine what the Patriots just might have drafted here. Instead he immediately mentions the kid compares himself to Josh Allen. What’s the context of that Bill? Did someone ask him who he compares his game to? Or who he tries to emulate his game around? And he answers Josh Allen (which half the world compares him to). Would it make Bill happier if he compared himself to Mac Jones? Jesus, the kid needs NFL coaching like they all do, it’s not his fault Bob Kraft took a dump on Bill Belichick’s head for the world to see.

Apparently there is truth to that. IDK where he did, but this article on Newsweek says there is truth to what BB said. I did not bother to follow thru with my search but it looks like Newsweek did confirm that.

Everyone who has followed the BB-coached Pats knows that BB does not like it when a player gets cocky/braggy. Remember the humble pie during Bruschi's time?
Then he shows him throwing into double coverage, telling us he has receivers open outside and inside…he does? Where? Then he shows “quick to come of receivers”, with a kid on a slant. He’s barely open and then covered. The line breaks down, he has half the defense piling in on top of him and he’s “quick to come off receivers”? He’s quick to leave the pocket? His line might suck worse than the one we have here. And then he points out he’s the worst quarterback in the pocket in this class, without adding any context. Like the line looking like it was drafted and built by BB. Now as for the breakdown of the play: What BB is saying is something that many here have observed and been trying to say. It is not new information. BB is just articulating it more clearly. And you know what? Maye does that more in meaningful games, towards the end of the season (Look at his W-L record, and ratings during first half and second half his last two seasons.). I actually think it was great that Bill was specific about the things that the Pats coaching staff need to address with the kid.
Whycnit just say, hey this is an immensely talented kid here, but he hasn’t played all that much and he’ll need time to hone his footwork and like everyone else, read NFL defenses. Picture him being taught to use them better, and then try to imagine what the Patriots just might have drafted here. I do not think people ask BB to be there just to say things at the level of ambiguity that you describe. BB is there to provide insight that others in the business do not. That means going into detail that a lot of people do not talk about a lot. I actually loved it, from the POV of learning more about the game. People complain about BB saying a lot while saying nothing at all... but when he actually says something people complain too? A big part of Maye's appeal has nothing to do with how his play compares with the others. He looks really good standing next to the other QBs. And it could very well be a subconscious thing. He is now the QB of the Pats, so I will give him the benefit of the doubt. That does not mean I want everyone giving their opinion on him to be sugarcoating what they say about him.

By nearly all metrics, Drake Maye was the worst QB of the top 6.
It is what it is. If I'm hurting your feelings when I say this.....well....then....it's you, not me.
Can he improve? Of course he can. Will I root for him? Of course.

I like honestly and unbiased opinion when people talk, Bill proved he can’t do that. He nearly pulled down his pants and pleasured himself when discussing JJ McCarthy handing the ball off at Michigan, never mentioning that the kid can’t throw outside the numbers, never had to, and didn’t get touched for ten weeks. He seemed a bit more diplomatic when discussing Daniels, but was nowhere near as critical as he was with Maye. It’s a bit too coincidental for my taste. And let’s say this kid does compare his game to Josh Allen, not that I’ve ever read/seen/heard that…does that make him a bad person?

I do not think the disparities you are alluding to had anything to do with the QBs. Had more to do with who their coaches were. I would not expect BB to be as critical of kids who were coached by his friends - Harbaugh and Kelly.

Worst passer rating. Worst TD/INT. Worst completion %. Worst Yards per attempt.
EDIT: the only of the 6 who got worse from 2022 to 2023 (remember, I don't tolerate excuse making for being a failure).
Now your turn, give me some numbers that show Drake is the best of the 6 or even in the top 3.

I didn’t ask for numbers, I asked for perspective/context. Best arm, worst team tallest strongest, worst offensive line (not close) worst combination of tight ends and receivers youngest of the top quarterbacks

But anyhow, I didn't think you were serious......we'll see how it goes.
