^this. I think the criticism of Solder needs to cease. Knowing his situation, we should be applauding him for trying to stay on the field to help his team mates win. perhaps foot ball is therapy for him. a way to get away from his daily worries. if the staff thought better options available, I am sure they would be playing ahead of Solder. they aren't. so case closed. I am sorry that Solder's son has kidney cancer. Everyone should be. I think he should excuse himself from the team in order to be with his son if his head is not into the game. I wouldn't blame him a bit if he did that. Solder's kid should be his main priority. That said, he ALSO has a responsibility to his team-mates, the owners, and to the fans to do what needs to be done to insure the success of the team. Meanwhile, if he plays, and plays poorly, he should expect criticism. for all we know, Solder tried to excuse himself from the team, but the team said we need you and will allow you as much time off as your family needs. As I said, if the staff felt Fleming or Waddle offered a better situation, surely they would be playing. they are not your take on the situation is not surprising. your negativity on the RS was very telling. you should seek help for your negative outlook

Those 2 DEs are definitely going to be game planned for. A lot of chipping from the backs and help from the TEs I would assume. If NE can shut down the run I do not believe Olde man Rivers can win in a shootout anymore. LAC are playing better than ATL so this should be a good game. Old Man Rivers ... lolz He must know something ...
He don't say nothing ...

Solder either is injured or he just sucks. He isn't going to be able to handle good pass rushers. The rest of the O line I am not worried about. Nate Solder's infant son is suffering from a rare form of kidney cancer. He starts chemotherapy soon. Poor little boy. Maybe he has more on his mind than fking football. +1 - How many knew, huh?

Much like the Atlanta game last Sunday evening, the Chargers' game in Foxborough Sunday is a huge game for both teams. A New England win puts the Patriots at a solid 6-2 at the halfway point of the season, and all but guarantees another double digit win season. The Chargers have won three straight after losing their first four (all close games). A win puts them at .500, and would establish them as a legitimate playoff contender. Like the Patriots, the Chargers are dealing with some injuries to key personnel: www.latimes.com/sports/chargers/la-sp-chargers-patriots-20171025-story.html

There is not a better option, in spite of Solders troubles. I would applaud Solder for trying to help the team. Period. You ahve your way of looking at things. I have mine. Thats fair. 3 weeks ago our 3rd down conversion rate on Defense was 49.9 last. Now it is 41.2, that's going in the right direction. By the way Chargers conversion rate on Defense is 41.2.
Wondering if this Defense that is suppose to be all world is? Giants#23, Raiders #19, and Denver #26 on Offense their 3 wins. I like our chances. You know were ranked #1.

Even the Chiefs "D" has allowed 161 points, to the Pats 166. Not saying that the Patriots "D" is great, but it's heading in the right direction. Even without Hightower, it's good enough to win, now that the DBs are playing better.

Bully for him (Solder). He still sucks. Frankly, if I were him I would realize that there are higher priorities than football right now. That is not his choice however. He is playing, and playing poorly. As such, he is subject to criticism for that play from anyone but the bonnetheads here, of which you are a charter member on any forum on which I have ever seen your opinions posted. For my part, I call them as I see them. Good play gets applauded (eg, Dion Lewis coming back strong from ACL surgery) and poor play, like Solder, gets criticism from me. It warms my heart that my criticism bothers you so much.

I have always liked Solder, I cringe every time he gets beat badly on the line or allows a sack and I hate reading on here how bad his play is. And then to know what he went through with his own health problem and now his son's health battle for the past couple years, I just really feel for the guy. But it's no excuse. If he can't protect the GOAT, something has to be done about it. Is he playing with some type of injury now? What he has going on with his son isn't a distraction, it's life... you just can't turn off life like some people can do with a distraction... some things you just carry with you all the time and it's gotta just grind on you, his son's situation is one of those things. I honestly can't know what he is going through with his son but having two children of my own I can imagine how shitty it must be. I just hope he can deal with his son's situation without it getting the GOAT injured. That's all. Not sure if I have a point here or if this post even makes any sense, just felt the need to give my 2 cents on the matter.

The good news is that statistically Solder's son has a very good chance at a cure. He has Wilms tumor, which is really not all that rare. I saw several cases of it when I was in practice. I think the cure rate is as high as 90% as I recall. Of course, the kid and his parents have to go through hell on the way to a cure, but at least its generally not a terminal condition. Only someone made of granite wouldn't empathize with any parent who has to watch their young kid go through surgery and chemo.

He's out there so his play is open to criticism. I think he's played pretty well recently. He was lousy the first couple, three weeks. He's been much better the past couple weeks, a couple phantom holding calls notwithstanding. But it is what it is, I'm 100% certain if Belichick had a better option he's be out there. Is it Waddle folks want out there? Pretty sure that wouldn't be any better.

If you still show up for work, your employer is expecting 100% from you and completion of your job. If something bad happens during your "shift", you can't simply fall back on an excuse and expect your employer to shrug it off. If you can't give 100% and have distractions which keep you from working fully, tell your employer and do not risk failure. I am certain Solder has had the conversion with BB given what we know and assured him he can play.

I'm not that impressed with the Chargers. They beat the Giants, Raiders and Broncos. Big deal. Rivers is a gun slinger, has that weird side throwing motion, which can be blocked, He's reckless. His greatest asset is his big mouth. Yes Bosa and Ingram are good, it's on the O-line to take care of them. Patriots-31 Chargers-17 Two defense interceptions. Agree. Game over at halftime. Final 45-7, Patriots roll.

I feel bad for Solder, I was watching the post game celebration after Sunday's victory and they panned across Nate, he looked like he was somewhere else entirely. It can't be easy. The Chargers are a good team who started out slow, much like us, they'll play hard this week.

I feel we can play a boring game, (heaven forbid), and win, without too much of a problem. You can run on the Chargers, ranked 31st in Rushing Defense. Get Play-Action going, Stop their Running game, Make them 1 dimensional, and NO Turnovers. Rivers is a Turnover waiting to happen, that's why never go far into Play-offs, try to make it a field position game. Long Field for them, Short Field for us. More plays Rivers is involved better chance of a Turnover. Patience and NO Turnovers. Get a lead.
I understand that this isn't the 1976 Pats, but because you stuffed on 1 run doesn't mean you give up on Running game. That's where patience is needed. Aggressive DE's, could be good on certain pass plays, for long gains. RB's out of Backfield, one miss tackle, and your in business. White, Burkhead, and Lewis, we got the weapons there. Don't need 20 yards plays, that take time, and falls into strength of D-Line. Quick, efficient plays, rely on miss tackles. NFL stinks in this fundamental nowadays.
Still not sold on Chargers Defense.

Chargers TE Antonio Gates has caught four passes in the past 3 weeks. He used to be great but not lately. QB Phillip Rivers has seen his average per passing attempt drop to 7.1 yards, the lowest average in 5 years, probably because of a lack of good targets this year. The Patriots are rather good at exploiting another team's non-weapons, concentrating on their remaining weapons. On the plus side for um, Los Angeles, Rivers hasn't been tossing many interceptions this year.
The team has to fly east, traditionally a tough direction on a team. The Southern California team will probably be playing in "then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall." Bring your rain slicker. The Patriots need to practice those wet ball drills (as if it hasn't been raining enough earlier this week).
New England has a perfectly good running game and San Diego has been soft up the middle, soft in the middle of the defensive line and then rather wounded at linebacker.
I don't know whether San Diego will be a particularly good test.

I don't know whether San Diego will be a particularly good test. Gates is not their main TE anymore. Henry is. With DH and Brown out, I am not sure they have enough to stop Gordon without giving up the pass. The showers do not necessarily give NE and advantage this time around. They are more dependent now on the long pass as they have been in the past. It'll be interesting to see if that can work in weather. I think this game will be tougher than you think,
