Here's an example of what Steeler fans are thinking...and they have visions of Brady to Hogan dancing in their heads: Steelers DBs - Are They Good Enough? Everyone wanted to upgrade the DBs in the draft. And for good reason, we can always upgrade the talent. But at the end of the day, are the DBs the reason we couldn't beat NE? I'd say the guys we have are good enough if they get some time to play together. Burns and Davis are legit starters with their game improving as the season wore on. Mitchell is pretty underrated in Pittsburgh and has improved since he joined the team and got comfortable in our system. There's been a lot of moving parts around him and as the young guys continue to develop, I see the continuity helping Mitchell's play. Cockrell is a mixed bag. Sometimes he does some good things, but other times he's mediocre. The team using the lowest tender on him tells you what they think of him. But he's a smart kid and no reason he can't be a solid contributor. No one thought very highly of Deshea or Willie Gay in their early days, but both worked their way into solid contributors and I think we'll live with Cockrell on the outside and fans will start to like him more and more as he makes positive contributions and doesn't show himself to be a liability. Probably the biggest short term concern is Willie Gay getting long in the tooth, but with Sutton and Golson, I think we have some options. Who knows with either, but both guys probably have more upside than Gay ever did. Beyond the starters, we'll likely see some tough competition for the backup spots. I like the flyer we took on Allen. Couple of the other young guys are still unknowns. Not sure we have much depth at S that makes me comfortable at this point, but we have some young guys throughout our DBs and continuity is probably the most important part of this unit's performance. Continuity and communication on the backend contributed to the big plays. It's not like we're getting over matched by NE's WRs. We just chose not to cover guys. I think we have more concern covering TEs and RBs out of the backfield. And that's not on the DBs. Some of that is on the LBs. But most of all, the biggest gap in our Defense is getting pressure on the QB. If we can somehow figure out a way to get pressure with 3-4 guys, all of our concerns about our DBs will magically disappear. No matter how you slice it, the teams that cause problems for Brady are the teams that can get to Brady with their D front. That's where we need to invest. That's why the Broncos or the Giants in recent years have been able to give NE problems. So the bigger question I have walking away from the draft is, did we get better at generating pressure with 3-4? I don't know that we did. And if we can't generate pressure without blitzing, you can have Woodsen, Blount, Troy, Shell, Carnell, whomever playing DB and they are going to look mediocre against Tom Brady if he has all the time in the world to make plays. If we're going to beat NE, it's more about how much Hargrave and Tuitt can improve in the short term. Draft picks aren't going to really help us during Ben's tenure most likely. At this point, we've got to develop who we have on D over time. But our future D is a post Ben era D that we're building. If we want to win now, I think a backup RB and #3 WR and a dynamic TE could be the biggest components to help us over the hump. To have a short term chance vs NE, you have to go all in on trying to get to 40 points/game. As many weapons as we have, Ben seemed to be playing alone in that last game against NE. I'm just not sure our secondary is the fix. We need a pass rush. We need to cover RBs and TEs better. We need young guys to gain experience playing together so we don't make mental lapses. And we need to be able to put up points and clearly we were missing depth at the skill position on O. www.planetsteelers.com/forums/showthread.php/46644-Steelers-DBs-Are-They-Good-Enough

Okay...no problem. Go ahead and try to cover Gronk, Cooks, Edleman, Hogan, Mitchell, and Lewis out of the backfield......one on one. Can't wait to see how that works out for them....

The Steelers have lost their last four games against the Patriots, including twice last season. They haven’t beaten New England since 2011.
Ryan Shazier was asked about the team’s “Patriots problem,” which included a 36-17 loss at New England in the AFC Championship Game last season.
“If you look at it that way, the NFL has a Patriots problem,” Shazier told Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
Indeed, the Patriots have five championships in the Tom Brady era, including two of the past three. The Steelers’ last championship came to end the 2008 season.
“They’ve been a great team; they have a great leader; and they just find a way to win,” Shazier said. “They have a good strategy in what they want to do. But I feel we are going to be prepared for them this year. I feel we are going to get them when we need to get them. And at any day, I feel we can win the Super Bowl. We might have had a problem in the past, but I think we are going to be ready this time.”
The Steelers know the key is getting home field. Pittsburgh allowed 119 points the past three games at Gillette Stadium but only 44 the past two games against the Patriots at Heinz Field.

Sounds like BB will have plenty of bulletin board material to weave into his game preparation mosaic, when the Patriots travel to Heinz Field on December 17th.

The "coaching rankings" have been announced. Of course, we know which coach was ranked #1...but...can someone please explain to me how Steelers' coach Mike "Trips" Tomlin got ranked as the 4th best coach in the league?
Does anybody else feel that Trips Tomlin is grossly overrated?

I look around the league and guys that jump out at me are Arians, Payton, Reid and Harbaugh and Reid I guess. I guess I'm being bias but it seems there is a tremendous gap between BB and the rest of these guys.

Pete Carroll was ranked second, and Mike McCarthy of Green Bay was ranked third. There is a huge gap after BB. Payton, Harbaugh, Quinn, Billy O'Brien, and Arians are all better coaches then "Trips".

Another Pittsburgh knucklehead:
Steelers cornerback Artie Burns has been arrested in Miami Beach for driving on a suspended license.
Burns was booked overnight into jail, according to the Miami Herald.
Andy Slater of WINZ reported that Burns failed to pay $1,012.20 in traffic tickets for driving violations including going 130 mph in a 60 mph zone. Burns also failed to show for a court date.
Burns grew up in Miami and played his college football for the Miami Hurricanes. He was the Steelers’ first-round draft pick last year and played in all 16 games as a rookie, with nine starts.

That said, Burns has had a rough time of things over the past couple of years: lastwordonsports.com/2016/03/18/artie-burns-2016-nfl-draft-profile/Sad.

It's a new season you gotta believe. Right, it's a new season and one has to show faith in one's team. That said, the rest of league does have a Patriot's problem. Goodell tried to solve it with Deflategate and failed. Outside of the manipulations of the league office only the Patriots can beat themselves this year. I admire BB for maintaining discipline in the face of such dominant and broad success. Most of us would resort to laziness or arrogance in such a situation but I take BB as a model for how to live life to get the most out of it.

The NFL Network flagship show, "Good Morning Football", is largely unwatchable. It's manned by idiots like Peter Schrager, who knows as much about football as your average nerd. He's the guy who "complimented" the Patriots by referring to them as "cockroaches".
That aside, being a football fanatic, I'll at times channel surf and run by it, for the rare cases when they have knowledgable guys on like Willie McGinest, Heath Evans, or are talking Patriots.
This morning they had Steelers' FS Mike Mitchell on. Mitchell was asked, which is the one team that the Steelers circle as rivals, who they dislike the most. Mitchell tried to answer in a diplomatic way by citing three teams...the Ravens, Bengals, and Patriots...but left little doubt that it is the Patriots that the Steelers most despise.
In responding to this question, Mitchell spent the most of his time talking about New England...and voiced his frustration as to how the Steelers have never beaten New England since he's been in the league.
But, the thing that he said that most caught my attention was this: Mitchell said that, "We beat teams with our physicality...while the Patriots beat you with their "discipline". We need to match their discipline while maintaining our physicality...the Patriots win the AFC and SBs every year...we are going to put a stop to it."
TRANSLATION: "We are a tougher, more physical team. The Patriots out scheme us, cheat, beat us with guile, and their pretty boy QB. We're gunning for them this year."
This myth that the Patriots aren't tough or physical dates back to the Steelers losses to New England, going back to the days of Kordell Stewart and Joey Porter. The Steelers look at the Patriots as a finesse team that cheats it's way to victory. This attitude permeates throughout the Steelers organization, including their coach, "Trips" Tomlin, who refers to the Patriots as assholes.
I can't wait until the Patriots ruin the Steelers season again in 2017...by crushing these sorry ass crybabies on their home field.

Who remembers Sergeant Toomey (Christopher Walken) from Biloxi Blues? "The benefit of discipline is that it is going to win us this war."Actually, I read the term discipline as a compliment. It's true enough that Mitchell may be ascribing attributes to his own team that don't exist, but he's not deriding the Pats by pointing out that they win with discipline. They do. It's a team that rarely beats itself and almost always forces you to play its game. I don't really care if Mitchell -- or anyone else on that team -- believes that the Stillers are this scary, physical monster. They're not, but those guys may happily believe whatever they like, and sleep soundly in their beds. What do we always hear about Brady and the Pats? They take what you give them and soften you up for the kill. On defense, they keep you in front of them and tighten the clamps in scoring territory. Discipline. Conversely, how many times did we see Ben Roethlisberger force the ball deep in the conference championship, missing on home-run swings when he should have been moving the chains and keeping the pretty boy and his disciplined offense off the field? Discipline ... or, more specifically, a lack thereof. The coach says that he can't play an effective defense against New England because he doesn't have the personnel. The quarterback says essentially the same thing, bemoaning his lack of "reliable" weapons. These guys are losers primarily because they do not accept responsibility for their own failures and that, too, can be traced to a lack of discipline. I will believe the Stillers know how too "put a stop to it" when they stop talking about it and show me something.

Discipline is the patriots mantra - 'Do Your Job' sums it up, but almost every quote, every slogan, and every action by the Patriots, their coaches, their GM, and their owner is part of that discipline - 'We're on to Cincinnati' doesn't immediately bring to mind discipline but that is what it really means. And personnel moves - trading Collins mid-season for example is the opposite of what so many teams do - Troy Polamalu was a great football player working in a system that allowed him to freelance all the time, he caused Brady and a lot of QBs endless headaches because he showed up in places he wasn't expected and made big plays - but because he didn't have discipline his defense gave up lots of big plays when he wasn't where his teammates expected him to be. The exact opposite of how BB runs the Pats. Patriots are famous for not fumbling - discipline by both GM and players - fumble and you sit and you get dropped from the roster - discipline. TB is famous for being tough on receivers - be in the right place at the exact right time or I am not throwing you the ball and you sit and get dropped from the roster - discipline.

"On to Cincinnati" means staying focused to me. I guess that can mean discipline. To be prepared for the next opponent and not look past that or to even look at the past whether win or lose. BB always leads the way.
